A Northern Wildflower Maternity Session

Chelsie and Ryan are special people to us - Ryan is my husband’s cousin, and they grew up together. Since we are now living in Minnesota, it’s been so fun to get to know Ryan and Chelsie better. We’ve done trips Up North together - we even spilled the beans to them about expecting twins on our first trip to Grand Marais! So you can imagine how special it is to see them expecting their baby boy in a couple of weeks. I know those waiting weeks well - they can feel like an eternity, and once your baby is here, you can hardly recall life before that sweet babe was in your arms.

"I cannot tell you how much longer you will have to wait, but I can tell you that you can have joy right here, as you wonder, and you can look forward to what is to come, even if you do not know exactly what you are waiting for" -Morgan Harper Nichols

Bunker Hills Golden Hour Engagement

Anne and Aaron are a beautiful young couple and reached out to me shortly after their engagement! They were a joy to be around - their energy and excitement for life is contagious. I loved hearing their engagement story, and loved even more hearing them dream up their future together. Dreaming up the future is one of my favorite things to do with my husband, and it is exciting to see Anne and Aaron so excited for the life they are getting started on.

A Perfect Spring Minneapolis Engagement

Danielle and Michael are the kind of people that instantly make you feel at ease and welcome to be with them. They are naturally fun and their energy is contagious. We had so many laughs and so much fun at our session - I actually found myself smiling and remembering the fun as I edited the images. After the long winter in Minneapolis, we were thrilled with what may have been one of the first really perfect spring evenings at the beautiful Stone Arch Bridge.

I’m so thankful for the lovely evening we had, and to have people like Danielle and Michael in my life. What an honor to be invited to one of the most memorable days of their life. As I put this collection together, I just kept thinking, how lucky they each are to have someone who loves them so well.

My Simple + Natural Skin Care Routine

I’m here to share my experience with oil cleansing! I’ve loved it and had a lot of people asking what specifically I do. I’m sharing all the details below. If you are new to oil cleansing, check out this website for a wealth of information, as well as guidelines on choosing the right carrier oil for you. I am LOVING oil cleansing - it’s budget friendly, fun to make, very customizeable, natural, and quick!

DSC_4008.jpg

Oil Cleanser:

  • In a glass dropper bottle, add carrier oil of your preference (I use a blend of jojoba, argan, and rose)

  • add in any essential oils you’d like - I add 10-12 drops of: Frankincense, Lavender, Geranium, Copaiba, and Blue Tansy.

Massage the oil onto your face for about 3 minutes (it works as makeup remover so you have one less step!). Take a very warm, soft wash cloth and press onto your face. Hold over your face until it begins to cool, then gently pat your face clean.

Glow Serum:

  • the steps are similar to the oil cleanser - you just want to leave 2/3 room in your glass bottle for witch hazel. I massage this onto my face after doing a facial mask once a week, or anytime my skin is feeling dry and dull.

Rose Water Spray - I will use this if my skin is feeling dry after washing. Just a couple spritzes and I’m good to go!

This is the extent of my skin care routine and I have seen DRASTIC improvement! I also love doing a Beauty Counter charcoal face mask once a week. If you know someone who sells Beauty Counter, check it out through them!

I’m so thankful I found this really simple form of self-care. My skin feels so much better and I love everything about the oil cleansing method! Please just shoot me a message if you have any questions!

Monthly Meal Plan Inspiration - April 2019

It’s spring (don’t look at the weather forecast, Minnesota) and I’m excited to share some recipes and food prep life hacks with you! Here’s my top 5 meal planning inspirations for this month - enjoy!

  1. Family food prep on the weekends - my kids help me make zucchini pumpkin muffins (I switch out coconut sugar for conventional sugar - partly because I think it’s healthier, partly because I accidentally keep buying it at Trader Joe’s). My husband grills/smokes some meat and we have so much delicious food ready for Sunday and the week!

  2. Rotisserie Chicken - we buy a whole chicken and cook it in the Instant Pot using this recipe. Then, we save the broth in mason jars for future recipes that call for chicken stock!

  3. Almond flour chicken nuggets - a true staple in our house. These are pretty easy to make - I don’t have a recipe saved because I’ve done it so many times. Mix almond flour with dried herbs and salt. Dip pieces of chicken in egg then almond herb blend, and cook in oil on a skillet. These are so yummy and still really nutritious.

  4. Pioneer Woman’s Cobb Salad - this makes a beautiful, big, salad and the flavors are all so good! So beautiful to bring to Easter dinner too.

  5. Charceuterie Meal - this idea comes from a dear friend of mine! This is a great one for Sunday evenings when everyone is taking it easy, but still has a hankering for something good. Assorted cheeses and meats, nuts, carrots and hummus, fruit, and crackers, and everyone is gathered around the table to enjoy each other’s company before another week starts. What a beautiful way to end a weekend!

Dean & Amelia Turn One

Today is my sweet Dean and Mia’s first birthday. Over the weekend, we hosted the sweetest birthday bash. The theme was a lyric from a song: “If I was a flower growing wild and free, all I’d want is you to be my sweet honey bee.” I heard the song back in December, and I instantly knew that was our theme. Dean and Mia are each lovely individuals that go together so well. Dean is sweeter than honey and the MOST lovable, snuggly boy. Mia’s beauty is beyond a flower and certainly has a wild side that comes out more as she grows. It’s been incredible to witness the twin bond. I’m going to spare all my sappy words from this post for personal letters to each of my babies, because if I start on here I won’t ever stop! But I am really excited to share some photos from their first birthday, as well as from a mini photo session I did for them today on their birthday. It was laugh out loud funny to try to get two busy babies to look at me for photos. I absolutely love the beautiful, comic chaos that shines in the images. Enjoy, and be sure to snuggle your babies extra today, they grow up too fast!

Monthly Meal Plan Inspiration

I tend to run hot and cold with meal planning. A couple weeks of very inspired meals is usually followed by a temporary lull in dinner time inspiration. I love cooking, but I also face the same challenge many of you face - finding the time to prep it all, long days of either work or parenting, and that intense witching hour from 5-7 PM. I’ve often thought it would be fun to do a meal plan swap- what a fun way to learn a handful of great, new recipes without having to spend a large amount of time browsing through cookbooks and Pinterest. Below you will find 5 great recipes I’m incorporating into our March meal plan. So, I invite you to join me in revamping dinner time. Turn up the Jack Johnson music, have your kiddos grab their stools and aprons, and let’s transform dinner time together. These moments are worthy of enjoying!

  1. Chicken Curry - this is by far our favorite curry to make at home. It’s simple and nutritious. I love that my kids are learning to enjoy a wide range of spice palates. We do rice in the instant pot and have a delicious meal!

  2. Whole 30 Zuppa Toscana - I love that this is Whole 30 friendly but also just really delicious. Another winner for the whole family.

  3. Magnolia Table Cookbook’s Grilled Salmon - I don’t have a link for this one, but it’s in the Magnolia Cookbook which is well worth having. We enjoy seafood and try to incorporate fish into our meals about once a week. You can get one here.

  4. Chicken Enchiladas with Homemade Enchilada Sauce - this one I am really excited about. I’ve been on the hunt for a good chicken enchilada recipe and although I haven’t made it yet, I’m confident this will fit the bill! I love that you make the enchilada sauce yourself with ingredients that are usually on hand.

  5. World’s Best Cinnamon Rolls - I would honestly be doing you a disservice if I didn’t share these with you. Plus, if you know me at all, you know that I will always promote a level of “treat yoself”! I know what you are thinking - there are about 500 cinnamon roll recipes on Pinterest claiming to be the best. The recipe comes highly recommended from a dear friend and when I finally got around to making them for Christmas brunch, the LIVED UP TO THE HYPE. They were unanimously loved by everyone there. So while you think about what your March will look like, create some space for a Saturday brunch with these delicious cinnamon rolls, a good cup of coffee, and maybe a mimosa too.

I hope you have fun trying a couple of these out. I’d love for you to share a recipe you love having at the family table as well!

A Blizzard + A Bump

A fluffy, white out snowfall.

A gorgeous, adventurous mama.

Tall, snow covered pine back drop.

Snowflakes that stay on your nose and eye lashes.

These are a few of my favorite things! Huge shout out to this gorgeous expecting mama who didn’t look at me like I was crazy when I proposed prancing around the woods in the midst of a mid-week blizzard. This is her fifth pregnancy and she’s completely glowing. I’m so thankful she trusted my vision for this and showed up with a sense of adventure and a heart to enjoy the here and now. I can’t wait to meet that sweet little one!

Baby L - St. Louis Park, MN

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” -Edgar Degas

This quote resonates deeply with me. One of the things I love most about photography is challenging myself to capture moments that can take you back and make you feel exactly how you felt in those moments. What could only make me more giddy is when I am doing it for long time friends - and this session was just that!

My husband and I have known Jason for at least 12 years. We were all friends in college and are lucky enough to have a close knit circle of friends that have stayed in touch all these years. Trips to coffee shops and intense discussions about Harry Potter are how we all got to know each other. Over the years we have celebrated marriages, traveled across the country to see each other, become home owners, and are now lucky enough to have both our families located in the Twin Cities.

You can imagine my excitement when Jason and Christa reached out to me about a lifestyle newborn session. We decided to kick off the celebration of welcoming Baby L to the world with a short and sweet Fresh 48, and then about 10 days later as they felt settled and cozy in their home, I invited myself back over (ha!) to chase some of those slower moments of newborn days that we all know are heavenly. I’m thrilled to share with you my favorites here!
